Hello everyone. Today we have a following problem. What is or are the correct products for the reaction shown below? So for both of these reactions, we have oxides, but we will tackle them one at a time. For our first reaction, we have hydro and water in the presence of an apo sign which will actually serve to proton the oxygen of the epoxy as this is a acid catalyzed. When that oxygen is proton, it will form the following ox sodium ion. And so now that we have a positive charge, we could have one or two things happen, we could have the water perform a nucleic attack on the more substituted carbon or the less substituted carbon. And what will occur is that it will actually perform this nucleic attack because it is a weak base and a weak nuc file, it will go to the more substituted carbon as that positive charge is more prominent as it is shared between oxygen and two carbons. It has more predominance for the more substituted carbon. This will open the ring and upon opening the ring, we will have the following where we've created another ox sodium ion. But we must also make note that this nucleic attack can occur from the backside or the front side. So what occurs is we get aic mixture of products. But for this step, this will be considered a rim mixture of intermediates. The last step involves deproteinate using water. So water will deproteinate both of these. And there it's seeming as if this one molecule of water is doing it, but there are two molecules of water doing it. I just drew one for a simplistic sake. Once both of those molecules have been detonated, we will have the following products. We're in one of our alcohol groups. It'll be on dashes and the other will be on a wedge and it should actually be showcased our second product there. Now, for a second reaction, we have an oxide reacting with di methylamine and this is going to be a standard S and two reaction wherein we will have a nucleic attack of this dye methyl amine. And because each carbon of the oxide is has equal substitution, it could attack at both sides. And so when it does that we essentially will open the ring and form the possible intermediates wherein we see that our nitrogen is positively charged. And of course, because this is an S and two reaction, we will have two asemic mixture products as their as there are considered carl centers dot form. And because there is an inversion of configuration with that diel Aming group And as we did in our previous problem, we will use water to deproteinate the nitrogen. Once again, it'll be two mole molecules of water, not one. And when we do that, we will form the following products. And with that, we have solved the problem overall, I hope this helped.
