Identify the stereocenters in each molecule. Both molecules have two stereocenters, which are the carbon atoms bonded to four different groups.
Assign the configuration (R or S) to each stereocenter in both molecules. Use the Cahn-Ingold-Prelog priority rules to determine the order of priority for the substituents around each stereocenter.
Compare the configurations of the corresponding stereocenters in the two molecules. If all stereocenters have opposite configurations, the molecules are enantiomers. If some, but not all, stereocenters have opposite configurations, the molecules are diastereomers.
Check for any internal plane of symmetry in each molecule. If a molecule has an internal plane of symmetry and is superimposable on its mirror image, it is a meso compound.
Determine the relationship between the two molecules based on the analysis of stereocenters and symmetry. Since the molecules have two stereocenters and not all configurations are opposite, they are diastereomers.
