And we're going to recall that when representing an isotope symbol will say for an element of X, we have the mass number represented in the left hand superscript, we recall that the mass number is the sum of protons to neutrons within the atom. And then we have the atomic number represented by the symbol Z in the left-hand subscript which recall is described by the number of protons in the atom. And for a neutral atom would also equal the number of electrons. So looking at this second product, we observed two orange particles with two gray particles all bound together. And we would write out a mass number of four based on the two protons and two neutrons represented by the particles given, as we stated, atomic number correlates to number of protons. And because there's two protons, our atomic number is two, where we would recall on our periodic table, the atom corresponding to an atomic number of two is helium. Now we're going to then represent the nucleus of the parent isotope or parent nu glide as X one and then the daughter nu glide or the product of the parent isotope as X sub two. Let's complete the symbol for the parent new glide X one given in the illustration of its nucleus, we observe a total of eight gray colored particles which represent eight neutrons. We also observe a total of four sorry five orange particles which represent five protons. So adding the eight neutrons to the five protons gives a mass number of 13 for this parent nu glide and an atomic number of five. Now let's figure out its atomic number Z by solving for Z writing out an equation, we would have one plus the atomic number of the parent nu glide five set equal to the right hand side of our equation where we have the atomic number of the daughter new glide Z plus the atomic number of helium two solving in the next line, we would have six equal to Z plus two. And then subtracting two from both sides, we would have the atomic number of the daughter new glide, Z equal to four. So finishing the symbol of the daughter new glide, we would fill in its mass number of 10 in the left hand superscript and its atomic number of four in the left hand subscript, we're then going to need to illustrate what the nucleus of the dot nu glide observe is observed as. And because we know its mass number, an atomic number, we can then find the number of neutrons for the do new glide X two. And we can find that because we understand that the mass number of 10 is equal to the sum of protons being the atomic number four corresponding to four protons for the dot New Clyde plus an X unknown number of neutrons. Or to make things clear, let's use the variable N for neutrons. So we would just subtract four from both sides. And that would give us the number of neutrons equal to six neutrons within the do nude. And because we represent neutrons as gray colored particles, we're going to draw a total of six gray circles representing six neutrons for the do nude within its nucleus. And we know the atomic number of four for the dot New glide, which recall corresponds to proton particles. And So we would draw in four orange circles representing the four protons making up the dot nu glide.
