Hi, everybody. Let's take a look at the next problem. It says identify which of the following is inaccurate concerning the differences between rubella and rubio. A alternate names rubella, German measles, rubella, measles B, causative agent, rubella, single stranded RNA virus of the toga viride family rubio double stranded RNA virus of the permiso Vur family. See symptoms, rubella, fever, swollen and tender lymph nodes, mild respiratory systems and rash, rubio fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, clic spots, rash, and then choice d severity, rubella, severe rubio, mild. Well, let's just evaluate each answer as we go along to figure out if they are accurate or inaccurate, true or false. We're looking for the inaccurate or false statement. So choice A gives us the alternate or more common names for these two conditions. Rubella, German measles, rubella measles and this is correct. This is true. These are the more well known names of these two. So we'll cross that out. Why is German measles given that name measles because the two have very similar symptoms, including this red sort of Lacy rash. So um they, they both have this common name due to the similarities between them. German measles was sometimes called the three day measles uh since it tended to be very short of duration. You'll notice this clic spots presents a distinction. So this is true. These uh symptoms between them cop spots are these small white spots with like a bluish white center that appear on the cheeks and it is a distinctive sign of measles or rubio. You can see that rubio has maybe a little more of the respiratory system seen there. Uh In addition, the appearance of the rash, in terms of time in rubella, the fever tends to fade as the rash appears. Whereas in rubio, the fever is more likely to continue um while the rash is appearing. So, but in general, this is a true statement about symptoms. So not our answer choice. So just by a process of elimination. We've gotten to our correct answer as choice d about the severity. Indeed, this is inaccurate. These are reversed. So rubella tends to be a mild illness. While rubio, rubio can be more severe, it's not always severe. Many in the past before vaccines, many cases were mild but there can be very severe complications that happen not uncommonly with rubio. So given the possibility for the severe and even life threatening complications and it's extremely contagious nature. Um A vaccine against measles was developed to prevent it from spreading and causing these potential se serious complications. Rubella has a vaccine as well. Both of these are given routinely as part of the um Mmr vaccine, measles, mumps, rubella if rubella is so mild, why is it included in a vaccine campaign? This is because of the risk of congenital rubella syndrome. This is a very serious syndrome that can cause severe birth defects that results in infants. So again, because rubella is contagious even though it's very mild and people that contract it, you do have this extreme risk uh when pregnant women contract it. So to protect uh infants from congenital rubella syndrome, uh rubella vaccine is included in the routine childhood vaccines. But looking at our question here, the inaccurate statement about the differences between rubella and R rubella is our choice d that the severity of rubella is severe while the severity of rubella is mild.
