Hi, everyone. Welcome back. Our next question says, direct agglutination tests can be used to measure which of the following a sero typing B viral load. C allergic response or D all of the above. So let's recall what direct agglutination tests are we recall that in some cases, an antibody binding to an antigen can bind to more than one. So for instance, a type of bacteria and when it binds to epitomes on more than one site, and you have a whole bunch of antibodies coating these antigens, you can end up with a gluten nation or clumping together. So a gluten nation is the clumping together due to many antibodies binding to multiple antigen cells. So you can use this in a diagnostic test if you have, for instance, little wells where you have specific antigen found in the well, and then you add patient serum. If there are antibodies to that specific antigen, you will see this agglutination is clumping occurring in that well. So when antibodies to that particular androgen are present in the serum of the patient clumping will occur that can be observed. So what would you measure with this as a diagnostic test and the answer is choice. A sero typing, sero typing means identifying the group or subtype of a microbe, either a virus or bacteria. So when you know that the patient has an illness, but you don't know, for instance, they have a food borne illness, but you don't know what specific form they have of that particular pathogen. You have the different possible strains in your test and test that against the patient's serum and see which one causes a gluten, which one they have antibodies to. This is important. For instance, in foodborne illness, you might want to trace the source of the outbreak and knowing exactly which strain of Campylobacter or sta or excuse me, salmonella is present can help you trace back to the source of the outbreak. It can also help determine the best treatment of a patient. Certain strains of certain bacteria might be resistant to giving antibiotics or respond better to certain antibiotics. So knowing exactly what strain of, for instance, strep bacteria a patient is infected with will help you to decide on best treatment. So again, these direct agglutination tests are useful for sero typing. Let's just look at our other answer choices, particularly because we do have this answer. Choice of all of the above. Make sure we don't have any other possible answers. Tri B says viral load, well, viral load would not be measured by a gluten nation because when you say viral load, you mean how much of a virus is present in someone's body. And in these tests, you're looking to see which type or what exactly what kind of antigen is present. If you want to know how much is present, this is usually done by PC R testing where you amplify the virus that is present and look to see how much amplification does it take to find that virus? And that will let you know how much virus is present, but you wouldn't use a gluten nation for that. So that's not our answer. We can also then eliminate choice d all of the above since we already have an incorrect answer. And then to c allergic response that you would look at in skin testing where the skin is pricked with a small amount of different possible allergens. And you look to see where the skin reacts so not done by glutin nation testing. So not our answer here. So we've eliminated our other choices. We know our answer isn't all of the above.
