We have that prefix of neuro right in there. So that involves communication through releasing of neurotransmitters that bind two target cell receptors. So let's look at our other answer choices. Well, the trickiest one in terms of ruling it out would be choice c Perrine signaling because Perrins Perrine signaling is when a cell releases some sort of chemical into the extracellular fluid that then affects a nearby cell. So if my eye hadn't jumped so quickly to neurotransmission, since I've been dealing with a nerve cell, I definitely would have been looking at Perrine signaling. And of course, the trick here is that neurotransmission is a form of Perrine signaling because those synapses between nerve cells and the target cells are very small. So that is exactly what's happening. The neurotransmitter is being released into the extracellular fluid of the synapse and it's being effect or it's affecting, excuse me, affecting nearby cells, the target cell. But the choice D is a better answer because it more specifically describes what's happening here. So you don't rule out Perrin because it's wrong. You rule out choice C because it's uh not as good an answer as choice D it's too broad. So I'll just put that there too broad. Since we have a more specific answer in Joyce D, let's look at choice. A gap junctions and B cell to cell adhesion. Well, gap junctions are a form of cell to cell adhesion cell to cell adhesion is the many ways cells adhere to each other. And a number of them allow transmission of substances directly between cells. So things like tight junctions, desmosome and gap junctions as we have in choice. A but all of these involve some sort of transmission of substances directly from one the inter of one cell to the inter of the adjoining cell that's adhered to it. So, not into the extracellular fluid, not over a distance, but two cells tightly adhered to each other. So that's why that's not correct. And then as we said, gap junctions are a form of cell to cell adhesion and they allow free passage of substances from one cell to the other. So again, not what we're talking about here. The one that's not included on here is endocrines willing the use of hormones that can travel through the bloodstream to very distant and very distant organs or tissues and cause results. That's another method of cell to cell communication.
