Everyone in this video we're going to be looking at this practice problem where we want to determine if the absolute value of negative seven times the absolute value of nine is equal to the absolute value of negative seven times nine. And if that's true or false. So because we're working with absolute values it's important to remember the absolute value rule which states that if we take the absolute value of a number such as A we'll get that same number back. But if we take the absolute value of a negative number such as negative A. We get that number back but without the negative sign. So notice how the absolute value of A. And the absolute value of negative A. Give us the same answer. A. So we can use this rule to help us determine if the statement is true or false. So I have the absolute value of negative seven times the absolute value of nine is equal to the absolute value of negative seven times nine. So before we can complete the multiplication on the left hand side we need to get rid of the absolute value bars. So if I do that negative seven the absolute value of negative seven becomes positive seven times the absolute value of nine becomes nine. So my left hand side becomes seven times 9 which is 63. And my right hand side in order to get rid of the absolute value bars I need to complete this multiplication that's on the inside so I have negative seven times nine is negative 63. But I still have the absolute value bars and once I get rid of the absolute value bars, or the absolute value of negative 63 is positive 63.
