Solve each equation in Exercises 73–81 by the method of your choice. (x-3)^2 - 25 = 0

Hello today we're gonna be solving a quadratic equation by using any preferred method. So the equation given to us is X plus four. That quantity squared minus 60 for equal to zero. And we're just gonna go ahead and solve this algebraic lee. So in order to solve for X, the first thing we're gonna want to do is go ahead and add 64 to both sides of this equation. Doing so is going to leave me with X plus four squared equal to 64. Now notice that 64 is a perfect square and X plus four is a squared value. That means we can go ahead and take the square root of both sides of this equation. Doing so is going to leave me with X plus four on the right hand side. And keep in mind that a square root produces two values plus and minus and the square root of 64 is just going to be eight. So since we have the quantity X plus four equal to two separate values, we're gonna go ahead and separate this into two separate equations. The first equation we get is X plus four equal to positive eight. And the second equation we get is X plus four equal to negative eight. So we're just gonna go ahead and solve each of these individually on the left hand side. All I'm gonna do is go ahead and minus four to both sides of this equation and eight minus four is just going to be four, so X is equal to four which is one of our solutions on the right hand side we have X plus four is equal to negative eight. We're gonna do the same thing and minus four to both sides of this equation And -8 -4 is going to give me -12, which will be our second solution. So both of our solutions is X is equal to four, And X is equal to -12. That means that the overall answer to this problem is going to be C.
