Welcome back. I am so glad you're here. We are asked to express the following number in scientific notation. Our number is or in other words putting these or these commas in here, we have five billion, 78 million. Alright. And we need to express this in scientific notation. We look at our answer choices. They are A which is 5.78 times to the ninth. B is 5.78 times 10 to the 10th. C is 5.78 times 10 to the eighth and D is 50.78 times 10 to the ninth. What we recall from previous lessons on scientific notation that we're going to have a number and that is going to be between one and nine, followed by a decimal. And then we're going to have all the other numbers leading up to the last non zero number. And then that's going to be times 10 raised to the however many spaces we moved left or right. So let's start filling this in. So that first number between one and nine that starts on the left, it's going to be the first number we have moving from the left and the first number we have here is five. So we fill in the five and then that's point and we're going through all of the numbers until we hit no more one through nine numbers and we're just hitting zeros. So we've got a zero, but there are regular numbers after that zero. So we go 078. So it's 5.78. And then after that, it's all zeros that's times 10 raised to that. And we check how many Digits were moving normally in this five billion number. The decimal point is right here after this last zero. But we're moving it quite a bit to the left. We're going one,  aN:aN:000NaN spaces to the left because we're moving to the left, it's going to be a positive number. So a 10 is raised to the ninth. So in other words, we've got 5.78 times 10 to the ninth, which is five billion, 78 million. But written in scientific notation, we look at our answer choices in this matches with answer choice.
