Hello everyone in this video we're going to be looking at this practice problem where we want to perform the addition negative 13 divided by eight plus five divided by eight. So if I rewrite both of these fractions out here you can see that both of them have the same denominator so I can combine the numerator. So when I do that I have negative 13-plus divided by eight. So now I'm going to focus on simplifying the numerator which is negative 13-plus 5. So in this case because both of these numbers have opposite signs where my five is positive and my 13 is negative. I'm going to take change this into a subtraction or I'll subtract the smaller value five from the bigger value 13. This will become 13 minus five. And if I do this subtraction I'm left with eight. But because I sort of switched the order of that edition, I need to make sure that I take the sign from the larger number. And in this case the larger number is 13 which has a negative sign in front of its value. So that means that my answer for this subtraction will need to be negative. So I'll have negative eight as my new numerator. So I can write that in for the numerator value where I have negative eight Divided by eight and 8 divided by eight simplifies to one but I still have the negative out front. So I have negative one as my final answer and you can see that that aligns with answer choice B So hopefully this video helped and see you next time.
