With the following nucleotide sequence and its coding strand. And that coding strand that we're given is listed from the uh typical five prime to three prime direction. So let's keep straight in our heads. When we have the coding strand of the D. N. A. It will be complimentary to. I'll do that in red. The template strand and this is what's going to be used in transcription for the M. R. N. A. To be synthesized. And so after that we'll go on to the complementary to that will be the M. RNA strand. And since our coding strand Is written here from the five prime to the three prime end. So we'll see and this is D. N. A. To remind ourselves that our template strand because it's the complementary strand or coding strand is in a three prime. Five prime direction is also D. N. A. I want to keep that straight here. Let's try a little squiggly line here. And then our M. RNA strand because it's complimentary To the template strand is again going to be in a five prime to three prime direction. And that's our any. So when we look at this I'm just going to do um a short portion and the interests of speed here. When we look at our coding strand that were given in the problem let's just say it starts with C. C. A. T. T. So then when we look at our template strand we know that it will look like this G. G. T. T. A. A. And then continue on. So then if we want to look at our M. RNA strand there there's our D. N. A. Strands. We make it complimentary to the template strand. So we see see see A. A. And then we have to remember in R. N. A. We have the substitution of uracil in place of timing and the D. N. A. So we have two A's in our D. N. A. So here we're going to have you you in our M. RNA strand because the you is in place of the T. And that will continue on. So the reason I did this little short bit here is to show us that while we need to remember it it's these three strands here. If you're on a test and you want to quickly say alright I've got the coding strand I need M. RNA strand. I don't need to go through the process of writing out the entire template strand. Because what I can see is that the M. RNA strand will be in the same order as the coding strand. That's why it's called the coding strand just with the substitution of U. For T. So um walk through that. So that when you're on a test you don't need to go through you know figuring out to complete strands here. So with that in mind let's come over here and we have our uh coding strand here, so we know that we have to have. So I'm looking up here at my coding strand. Well I've already figured out, I've got to have C. C. A. U. U. And in fact I can use this to see if I can go ahead and eliminate any choices. And when I look at choice A I. C C C. A. A. U. U. At the beginning. Well there's nothing else with that correct beginning sequence. So actually just from that I can go ahead and eliminate my other three choices B. C. And D. But we want to go we'll just go on and check and make sure the rest is correct. So again, we're now looking at our coding strand of D. N. A. And making sure this matches up here. So again, reminder if you're given the coding strand of DNA, the M. RNA strand is going to be in the same order with the substitution of yourself for the thing. I mean um without having to go through the step of writing out the template strand, but you always have to remember that the template strand will be complementary to the coding strand and then the M.
